(Austin, TX) -- Texans are playing a part in one of the legal challenges to the Trump administration's plan to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census. Texas civil rights groups and Democrats in the Legislature are part of a lawsuit that claims the question would deter many immigrants and minorities from participating in the census.
Representative Gene Wu, a Houston Democrat, says the resulting undercount would diminish minorities' political influence and cost Texas billions in federal money. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton favors the inclusion of the citizenship question in the 2020 census.
