Friends with Your Boss

There was a time that bosses kept a respectable distance from the hired help.

Today – not so much.

Standards are changing around the office water cooler, and socialization norms between managers and employees have grown friendlier.

Olivet Nazarene University took a deep dive into trends, and found 68% of workers today have their boss’s personal phone number.

Andrew Kerns of Digital Third Eye says social media is playing a role in the transition.  “There is no way Ferris Bueller would have gotten away with what he got away with in the 80’s if he were in today’s world because his whole day would be broadcast on social media.”

“Following” your boss doesn’t have the same connotation it used to.

One in four workers today have visited their boss’s home.  34% have asked for advice on a personal matter.
