Teen Charged In Drunk Driving Crash That Killed Mother In Morning Crash

A 23-year-old mother is dead and a 19-year-old Eric Hernandez is now charged with intoxication manslaughter after a fatal crash Monday morning.

The crash happened around 2 a.m. at the intersection of College Avenue and Easthaven Boulevard where driver Hernandez crossed three lanes of traffic before striking the other vehicle head-on.

Police arrived and found the woman dead at the scene after her car was hit by Hernandez's pickup truck. The female driver was with her 1-year-old and the child's 48-year-old grandmother when the crash happened.

Police say Hernandez showed several signs of intoxication, including slurred speech and lack of balance on his feet.

Police say the teen may have been driving while intoxicated.  The 1YO and the child's grandma were transported to an area hospital. They're expected to be ok.

The teen driver's condition is unknown, but he told police he'd consumed 4 or 5 beers at a bar prior to the crash. Hernandez did survive the crash but he's expected to make a court appearance this afternoon.

The identity of the mother who was killed has not been released.
