An Israeli start-up says it's made the world's first steak grown in a laboratory. Aleph Farms said Wednesday the technology it developed marks a breakthrough and a great leap forward in producing a cell-grown steak.
Analysts say the meat is thin but clearly steak-like and appears to be a big milestone toward eventually making ready-to-eat meat without slaughter.
Many companies make plant-based burgers but only a few start-ups are trying to make real, environmentally-friendly beef and chicken from animal cells.
