(Austin, TX) -- A state legislator is backing a bill that would bring casino gambling to Galveston County.
Representative Joe Deshotel, a Democrat from Beaumont, is pushing the bill as a way to fund the Texas Windstorm Insurance Agency. The agency provides insurance for homeowners in hurricane-prone areas on the Texas Gulf Coast.
If House Bill 494 passes, the Texas Lottery Commission will be able to issue six licenses for casinos in Galveston, Jefferson and Nueces Counties.
