A Brenham woman is being celebrated for donating 100 gallons of blood over the past 30 years.
Candy Arth says she started donating blood in 1987, and makes it a point to stop by the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center in cypress every Monday after her bible study training.
“I consider it as part of my responsibility as a child of God to giveback what has been given to me,” says the 68-year-old Arth. “I've been given good health and so therefor I think I'm serving the Lord when I donate blood and serving others.”
Arth was greeted at the center Monday with a banner and balloons to mark the occasion.
“I think it's more than a calling, I think it's my ministry,” she says. “I can do it and I can do it easily, I have no problem with donating. I would donate more often but the blood center won't let me.”
Arth usually donates platelets, which can be given up to 24 times a year. Her 100 gallons of blood comes out to 800 total donations.
