Houstonians are saying a final farewell to a New England transplant who became a friend, champion, neighbor and fellow Texan in his almost sixty years of off-again, on-again residence in the Bayou City.
President George H.W. Bush lies in repose at St. Martin’s Church through 6am Thursday.
Those wishing to extend a last goodbye to the president must park at Second Baptist Church on Woodway for transport to St. Martin’s. Shuttle buses are provided at no cost. All passengers will undergo a security check. Large bags, weapons and photography are prohibited. The last bus will depart from Second Baptist Church Thursday morning at 5:30.
Several roads in the vicinity of the church will remain closed through one Thursday afternoon, including Ridgeway between Sage and South Post Oak; Sage between Tangle and Woodway; Woodway between Chimney Rock and North Post Oak.
Thursday’s 10 am funeral at St. Martin’s Church is by invitation only.
The motorcade and casket will depart the church Thursday morning at 11:30 and make its way to the Union Pacific Auto Facility in Spring where it will be placed aboard Union Pacific Engine 4141.
The public is invited to view the train as it makes its way to College Station. Many will gather in Old Spring, Magnolia, and Navasota. The train will arrive in College Station at 3:45.
The funeral procession to the Bush Presidential Library is open to the public but the interment ceremony is private.
