The job market is expected to look pretty good next year.

The Greater Houston Partnership delivered their annual forecast of employment in the Bayou City for 2019 on Wednesday, projecting a net increase of 71,000 positions in a variety of sectors.

“We expect to see job growth in every sector,” says Patrick Jankowski, Vice President for Research.  “We expect to see the strongest job growth in the areas of health care, construction, professional services, manufacturing, restaurants and retail.”

If the job growth works out as anticipated, Houston will end 2019 with 3.2 million payroll jobs, a net gain of more than 600,000 over the past ten years.

“Houston’s economy is in the best shape that it’s been in for several years.  When we look at sectors from construction to energy to health care to retail we expect that every one of those sectors is going to be creating jobs,” says Jankowski.

The Greater Houston Partnership projects 2019 job growth by sector:

Energy                                                 1,900

Health Care/Social Services                 9,000

Construction                                        8,900

Manufacturing                                     6,300

Finance & Insurance                           1,400
