Most Americans are Still in Bad Shape
Very few American adults- only 18 percent - have good metabolic health. Dr. Luis Rustveld of Baylor College of Medicine says metabolic health concerns how well you resist developing diabetes, heart disease and other dangerous health conditions. “The worst metabolic heath is found in people who are obese, rarely exercise and smoke. If you lose weight, quit smoking and eat a healthy diet – you are less likely to develop these things.”
He says children in Houston have among the worst metabolic health in the country. “We must start with the children and closely monitor their nutrition and exercise. This must become a habit before they have to start with medication.”
