BestBlackFriday.com officials expect more retailers to close for Thanksgiving Day.
Last year, a BestBlackFriday.com survey found 57 percent of Americans were against Thanksgiving openings while only 16 percent said they favored them.
Texas Retailers Association CEO and president George Kelemen said retailers know if their customers want store employees to enjoy time off on a holiday, or whether it’s the customer's traditions to shop on Thanksgiving.
“Nice feel good reasons that give their associates the full day off, they can spend Thanksgiving with their families, but, there’s also some sound business decisions,” said Kelemen.
He said online retail is a huge part of everyday life, and especially for the holidays.
Kelemen said the lack of literal foot traffic on Thanksgiving, might be replicated online. Stores will have to factor in their customer's needs to be open in person or if virtually will do.
“Online retailing is such a big, big part of our world now. And, it’s a huge part of the holiday shopping season,” said Kelemen.
He said stores that won't open on Thanksgiving Day, probably have a pretty robust online presence.
The day of the year retailers earned profitability, or were "in the black" became known as Black Friday.
