(Houston, TX) -- Houston is sending one of the state's first two Hispanic congresswomen to Washington. State Senator Sylvia Garcia is replacing retiring Democrat Gene Green in Houston heavily Hispanic District 29.
Former county judge Veronica Escobar won the seat formerly held by El Paso Democrat Beto O'Rourke, who left the seat to make his unsuccessful challenge against Republican Senator Ted Cruz.
