Waller County Sheriff's deputy dies after crash, trapped in flood

A Waller County Sheriff's deputy, identified as 24 year old Loren Vasquez, was killed when her car veered off the road and ended up in flood water.

It happened southwest of Hockley, when the deputy was out working on FM 362 and Hoover Lane.

Deputies struggled to pull her out of the water. It remains unknown how deep it was. They couldn't get the doors open but they were able to break a window.

As she was loaded into the ambulance, deputies saluted her body. She was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Her body was then escorted to the medical examiner's office via a procession by law enforcement vehicles.

She began her law enforcement career with Waller County in May of this year, had just finished her 20 week Field Training Program, and had been on patrol as a single deputy unit for just three nights before the crash last night that took her life.
