New Veterans home opening soon

A new home for military veterans in the Houston area is getting closer to opening.

The new Richard Anderson State Veterans Home is in Pearland, and Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush tells KTRH it is just months away from opening.

“Right now we are projecting for spring of 2019,” Bush said as he toured the facility this morning with reporters. “We are still putting some finishing touches on it. But we will have an official opening ceremony in the first part of 2019.”

Bush says this is a cause very close to his heart.

“As a veteran myself that served in Afghanistan, one of the most cherished roles I have as Land Commissioner is chairing the Veterans Land Board,” Bush explained, adding that his grandfather, Former President George H.W. Bush, who is also a World War II vet, would be proud.
