HOUSTON - New developments in fiber optics could make internet speeds up to 100 times faster – by detecting light that has been twisted into a spiral.
Michael Garfield, the High Tech Texan, explains, "Alternating those wave lights and pulses and reading them a certain way can speed up the process by up to 100 times."
Garfield says he's excited about the possibilities this new tech represents, but he doesn't see this hitting the consumers' fingertips anytime soon. "The cons are it's not going to happen tomorrow and it's not going to be around next year. It's going to take some time to roll out. We need more infrastructure to deliver things at a snap because we want things now!"
Garfield doesn't even want to hazard a guess at what the costs will be for consumers on a monthly basis once this becomes readily available.
