It was the applause and the calls of "Welcome home" that got to me. Viet Nam War veterans from Houston on their Honor Flight to Washington, DC Friday morning. By chance, I was aboard that flight and it was an atmosphere of goodwill that you seldom feel enroute to any destination. The pilot sporting a Stars and Stripes tie, by the way announced his father was one of the veterans in the group. Fire trucks sprayed arcs of water as we landed. And then the crowds of people applauding in the terminal as the Honor group deplaned... to the welcome they didn't get 40 years ago.
They toured of our national war memorials and Arlington National Cemetery these veterans stood, many from their wheelchairs, at the Tomb of the American soldier.
