Student Loan vs Home Mortgage

Student Loan Debt vs Your House
By iHeartMedia’s Sally Adams

Can you imagine owing more on your student loan that you do on your house? Student loan debt has mushroomed over the last 20 years - and Pat Shin of KTRH's Money Matters says the loans are lasting longer than before. “Seventy per cent of students leave school with some amount of debt. The average student loan debt is not paid off until 19 or 20 years.”  Eight per cent of our city's student loan holders actually do owe less on their homes than their education.  Shin says, “It's mostly because our home prices are ‘’reasonable’ and so are the payments. And these students went to really expensive schools!”
