Viagra Makes Men See Red

A 31-year-old man consumed so much liquid erectile dysfunction medication that his vision now has a permanent red tint.

He bought an off-brand medication of sildenafil citrate, the active ingredient in medications like Viagra, on the internet and swallowed so much he ended up in Urgent Care complaining that everything he saw had a red tint.

A new study by Mt. Sinai Hospital says several treatments were not able to return his normal vision, warning that taking beyond the recommended dosage could result in “persistent retinal toxicity.”

Normal doses have been known to cause temporary vision problems, but they generally work themselves out within 24 hours.  Researchers warn that while there is generally no harm in taking the recommended amount, more isn’t better and can lead to lasting damage.
