Houston Celebrates National Taco Day

You might want to dress like a taco today.

October 4 is National Taco Day and there are deals to be had, including at Houston Tex-Mex favorite Chuy’s, where if you show up dressed like a taco and post a photo on social media with #National Taco Day you can get a complimentary meal.  If that’s too far for you taste, tacos and Modelo beer can be had for a buck each.  Or you can ask your wait staff to “taco ‘bout it” and get a free crispy beef taco with the purchase of an entree.

Taco Bell is offering a gift set for five dollars that includes four tacos in the varieties the chain is best known for, including Cool Ranch, Nacho Cheese, and Fiery Doritos Loco Tacos and the Crunchy Taco.

The seven Houston-area Stone Cold Creamery you can pick up a waffle taco.

It’s believed by some that tacos originated in Mexican silver mines in the 18th century where the word “taco” was used to describe the paper-wrapped explosive charges workers used to extract ore.  Others say the word is derived from a Native American word for “flat.”
