Will higher gas prices impact the midterms?

Gas prices are trending in the wrong direction for Houston drivers, and some political analysts are wondering if this will hurt Republicans in the midterms.

That's because we haven't seen prices at this time of year this high in four years. But, UT-Arlington political scientist Allan Saxe tells KTRH Republicans shouldn't worry, at least not right now.

“As long as the economy stays strong, the high prices are probably not going to impact it much,” Saxe said.

That said, Dan McTeague at GasBuddy says the prices are not going to come down any time soon, not at least for the next four to six weeks.

“We are looking at the real potential for tightening of global supplies of oil,” McTeague stated.

Around Houston this week, prices are averaging above $2.50 a gallon, up a penny from where they were last week.
