Texas A&M and the school's Corps of Cadets held a memorial service this morning for former mascot Reveille VIII. The 12-year-old rough collie, who died on June 25, served as the school's mascot from 2008 until her retirement in May 2015.
Seven of Reveille VIII's handlers were present at the service, some serving has pallbearers. Her successor, Reveille XI, was also on hand, along with some 200 students, former students and college officials.
She was to be buried next to the previous seven Reveilles on the north side of Kyle Field.
Born in Topeka, Kansas, Reveille VIII was chosen to be A&M’s mascot at age 2. She spent her retirement at Texas A&M’s Stevenson Companion Animal Life-Care Center.
