160 undocumented workers nabbed in surprise raid

More than 300 federal agents descended on the North Texas trailer manufacturer Load Trail on Tuesday, finding 160 undocumented immigrants.

The agents, including some called in from Houston, arrived in vehicles and helicopters for the surprise raid on the company’s 100-acre facility in Sumner, about two hours northeast of Dallas.

The workers were detained, but no criminal charges were immediately filed, according to Homeland Security Special Agent Katrina Berger.

This is the second time in four years that Load Trail Trailers has attracted federal immigration scrutiny. In 2014, the company paid a $444,993 fine for employing 179 unauthorized workers, according to federal records.
