The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory until 9 p.m. for Harris, Fort Bend, Galveston, Brazoria, Chambers, Matagorda, Wharton, Liberty, Waller, Austin, Colorado and Jackson counties.
Forecasters advise taking extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. If possible, reschedule strenuous activities. Otherwise, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends that outdoor workers scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. In a heat stroke emergency, call 911.
