(Austin, TX) -- As part of his school safety plan, Governor Greg Abbott is urging schools to focus on mental health.
Abbott is asking state legislators to expand mental health screenings so teachers and staff can identify dangerously troubled students early.
This emphasis is in response to the fatal shootings of ten people at Santa Fe High School in May, for which a student is now indicted.
That same month, Abbott asked lawmakers for 20-million-dollars for mental health services.
