What Did Your Dinner Eat?

Time was you were happy to walk into a McDonalds and order a hamburger.

Today some customers go into restaurants and want to know extensive details about the history and background of the food they order.

The TV show Portlandia recently parodied those consumers who want ethical and humane hamburgers.

The couple asks their waitress about the background of their chicken.

“The chicken is a heritage breed, woodland raised chicken that’s been fed a diet of sheep’s milk, soy and hazelnuts,” she replies before being interrupted.

“This is local?” asks Fred Armison’s character, and he is assured it is.

“Is that USDA organic? Or Oregon organic? Or Portland organic?”

A California cattle consortium boasts of pasture-fed, no-GMO, organic cattle, which are thanked before slaughter.

In Texas, we tend to throw our meat on a pit and cook it low and slow and that’s usually about all we want to know.
