Trump Painting Draws Praise, Criticism

A well-known painter ignites a social media firestorm with his latest work entitled "Crossing the Swamp."  Jon McNaugton's work resembles the famed "Washington Crossing the Delaware", done by Emanuel Leutze in 1851.

This time it's Trump holding the lantern while his cabinet members - decked out in camouflage gear - row a boat across a swamp with the US Capitol in the background.

McNaughton’s work also features Vice President Mike Pence carrying the flag and National Security Advisor John Bolton carrying a rifle. Others featured on the boat include Attorney General Jeff Sessions; Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson; White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders; U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley; first lady Melania Trump; Defense Secretary Jim Mattis; Secretary of State Pompeo; the president’s daughter Ivanka Trump; Chief of Staff John Kelly; and Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway.

The painting features the caption,  ”Never give up. Never lower your light. Never stop till the swamp is dry.”

McNaughton is a vocal Trump supporter who has created other works of art featuring the President.  In "Respect the Flag" he depicts Trump holding a tattered American flag to his heart on a football field, a reference to the ongoing controversy surrounding the NFL and player protests.
