Report: Texas Replenishes Execution Drug Supply

Execution Injection Drug Supply

Despite a shortage of lethal injection drugs across the U.S., Texas continues to maintain enough supply for scheduled executions, having recently received a new shipment of doses.

A recent open records request revealed Texas has 22 lethal injection doses in stock with at least seven executions scheduled this year.

The state has been criticized in the past by defense attorneys for extending the expiration dates of some doses, but it's not anything Jeremy Desel with the state's Department of Criminal Justice can comment on.

"The TDCJ follows all state and federal laws, and cannot comment any further on the process," said Desel.

Meanwhile, the state is fighting the FDA over a 2015 ruling in which the agency said drugs imported from overseas were not approved and misbranded.
