Sadiq Khan, mayor of London, has given his approval for British protesters to fly a 19-foot-long blimp of “Baby Trump” when the President visits London later this week. “The more the resistance continues to attack the President ignoring all the great accomplishments that we’re achieving under this administration, I think the more serious Americans appreciate that serious Republican leadership is needed at the national, state and local level,” according to Harris County Republican Party Chair Paul Simpson. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani suggests rather than waste time on stunts like this Mayor Khan’s time would be better spent addressing his city’s spiraling crime rate.
The organizers have announced on social media they will take the helium-filled parade-style balloon on a world tour after the visit, saying they had raised more money than expected and would take the balloon where it’s requested.
Leo Murray, a longtime activist and the man who has organized the protest, said in a recent interview that President Trump “has a tremendously fragile ego so ridicule is an effective form of protest.”
The President is not likely to see the large balloon caricature of himself dressed in a diaper holding a phone. His itinerary, which includes meetings with Prime Minister Theresa May and Queen Elizabeth II, will take him to remote areas that protesters will not have access to.
Simpson finds the entire ordeal childish. “So they’re welcome to make as juvenile a show as they would like but I think President Trump will get some important work done at the meetings.”
