Marijuana advocates celebrate “4/20”

Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-NY, plans to celebrate "4/20" by introducing a bill Friday to decriminalize marijuana nationwide.

Compared to states around the country, Texas has just two marijuana dispensaries producing cannabis oil for a small segment of epileptics.

“We have nine states that have repealed prohibition entirely, making adult use legal, similar to alcohol,” says Heather Fazio at Texans for Responsible Marijuana Policy.  “And we have 29 states that allow patients safe and legal access to cannabis.”

Fazio believes the tide is shifting in the Lone Star State.

“More than half of the Texas House of Representatives signed onto a bill allowing patients with dibilitating medical conditions like cancer, multiple sclerosis and PTSD to have access to medical cannabis legally within our state,” she says.

That bill failed last session, but Fazio is hopeful lawmakers in Austin will pass it in 2019.
