Mainstream media blurs the line between news and entertainment

If you can stand it these days, when you watch cable news, what you are getting these days is really infotainment and not real news.

The networks are doing everything they can to keep your eyes glued to the screen. So legitimate news stories get pushed to the side and what you get on CNN and MSNBC is more exposure to Stormy Daniels than you probably need. Robert Thompson at Syracuse University says it is all about the money which is tied to ratings.

“Television news has been supported by advertising from the beginning and since the late sixties has actually been making money for the networks,” Thompson explained.

He also says the state of cable news, and journalism in general, is sad.

“In the best of all possible worlds, we would have TV news operations that would bring us the wide range of things that we should know,” Thompson explained.

But instead, you get more and more of Stormy Daniels. And according to a new poll, only 23% of you think her alleged affair with Trump is an important issue.
