Time was...when American school children all knew that February 22 was an important day in our history...it is the birthday of George Washington. With the President's Holiday encompassing the birth of President Lincoln, too, many of us now have to check online to remember the actual date for the "Father of Our Country."
Wikipedia, which is the first to pop up online, says that's the "popular" reference to Washington. I remember the reverence I was taught to show the date, and for the man. Not as apparent now in the rewrite of history from the “popular” input.
Forgetting history, rewriting history….are we headed to a path of repeating it?
