Democrats are calling for more gun control in the wake of last week’s high school shooting in Florida that left seventeen people dead. But, they conveniently ignore a very important historical fact.
That fact is this. They had a filibuster proof majority in Congress in 2009 and 2010 and they didn't do anything about gun control either. Republican strategist and Travis County GOP Chairman Matt Mackowiak tells KTRH they left it alone for political reasons.
“Gun control is not popular in rural areas across much of the country,” Mackowiak stated.
And those would be areas where Democrats needed votes. Mackowiak says if the left wants to make this an issue during the midterm campaign, Republicans should remind them of their hypocrisy.
“It’s a great point to make to remind Democrats they had an opportunity to take action when they had control and they didn’t do it,” Mackowiak explained, adding that this issue presents an opportunity for Republican candidates if they want to pursue it.
