HISD Considers Changes To Magnet School Program

The Houston ISD school board is considering some changes to the district's magnet school program.  The board is thinking about dividing the district into quadrants and offering the same magnet themes in each of the four divisions.

Unique magnets like HSPVA and Carnegie Vanguard will remain one-of-a-kind, but may not be funded the same way as in the past.

Weight may be added to low-income status for enrollment in the unique schools in order to create a student population that's more of a cross-section of the district.  Concerned parents are already raising questions about the proposed changes.
