GOP Party Chair Dowplays DACA Poll

New polling numbers show GOP primary voters oppose any sort of amnesty by a two-to-one margin.

Barometer Polling found an overwhelming majority of 540 likely Republican voters want the White House to enforce existing immigration laws rather than a compromise over DACA.

Sixty-seven percent of respondents said Congress should focus on enforcing the laws we already have on the books, versus only 33% who said they should focus on providing Amnesty. Similarly, 65.4% of respondents said President Trump should focus the resources of the federal government to uphold national immigration laws already in place.

"This new poll makes it clear that Republicans in Congress, and President Trump, should immediately abandon legislation and frameworks designed to change our laws to give Amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants if they want to keep their jobs in DC," declared William Gheen, President of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC.

However, Harris County Republican Party Chairman Paul Simpson urges patience as negotiations continue.

“We know where the president stands on wanting to control our borders, secure our borders and to fix our broken immigration system, so I'm confident we'll end up with a good bill in the end,” he said.

Simpson says worries over the midterm elections are overblown, “President Trump is negotiating on this issue and his terms are exposing Democrats for the radicals they really are.”

“If Democrats really want to help us fix our immigration system they would need to negotiate in good faith and they're not doing so, they're just playing to their left-wing base.”
