President Trump makes his first State of the Union speech to the country and Congress later on tonight.
Trump did address Congress last year, but that was not an official State of the Union address, because that would have come just days after he took office.
So what can we expect tonight? University of Houston political scientist Brandon Rottinghaus says you can expect the President to do what he does in big moments like this.
“He’ll play it straight. When there have been these big moments, he has typically followed that roadmap,” Rottinghaus told KTRH News.
So, you can expect him to focus on successes, especially with the economy. But Texas State Representative Dennis Bonnen wants to hear more about his plans on immigration.
“I want to make him make a really hard pitch for getting something done on immigration,” Bonnen explained. “Texas has a porous border and you have people flowing through it every day.”
But no matter what he says, you can expect the President to be ripped apart afterwards by the mainstream media.
“They shouldn’t even be called the mainstream media. They should just be called the liberal attack dogs for the opposition. They don’t know how to do it any other way, and they have proven that time and time and time again,” Bonnen said.
And don't forget you can listen to the speech live tonight here on Newsradio 740 KTRH, with coverage starting at 7 o'clock.
