Researchers at The University of North Carolina are working toward developing "better opioids." Addiction expert Dr. Michael Weaver of the U T Health Science Center explains their study it this way.
“They are creating a compound with the same pain killing abilities as an opioid, but without the euphoric qualities that lead to addiction.”
The crisis is not over yet. Last year 65,000 Americans died of opioid addiction. Dr. Weaver cautions the most optimistic of you commenting, “It will take years of research and testing before we will have an actual product that is ready for human consumption. But the study is very compelling.”
