FEMA Trailers Sitting Empty In Galveston County

Barely a third of the Galveston County families who qualify for a FEMA trailer after Harvey are actually living in one.

A FEMA spokesman says the agency had approved 196 survivor families for trailers as of Tuesday.  But only 67 of those families have been given the keys to get inside the trailers, which may already be sitting on their properties waiting for water or electricity hookups.

FEMA had identified about 415 Galveston County households in need of direct housing.  The rest of them are either back in their homes, have received hotel or motel vouchers, or have moved into apartments with rental assistance.
