Billboard Magazine has named Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” the number one song of 2017.
In a remarkable year for music, there isn’t much competition.
Written in about 20 minutes, Sheeran says, the song was released the first week of January as the year began and remained in the Hot 100 chart every week for the rest of the year.
The official video has been watched on You Tube more than 2.8 billion times.
It has been streamed on Spotify more than any other song, more than 1.5 billion streams.
It reached #1 in 44 countries.
In Canada it was #1 for sixteen consecutive weeks.
He wrote it for Rhianna to record, but ended up including it as a final cut on his (÷) album.
The rest is history.
