Houstonian Arrested on Terrorism Charges

A west Houston man - born and raised in the US - is arrested by the FBI on terrorism charges. Authorities say 18-year old Kaan Sercan Damlarkaya was a willing participant in ISIS chat rooms, and was arrested on his third attempt to travel to Syria...

"They were homeschooled by the mother; she's an engineer. That don’t fit the kid... He’s been a good kid all these years that we’ve been here. This totally grounds me - just knocks me down. I don't understand it."

Neighbor Ed Hood tells our TV partner KPRC Channel-2 there were never any signs of trouble from the family.

According to federal documents unsealed Monday, the Houston man was caught "unlawfully distributing instructions for making explosives". They also say he bought parts to make his own AK-47 as part of a "planned operation" in the US.

Court documents allege the teen "hated living in this world" and was seeking "martyrdom" by attacking non-Muslims in the US if he couldn't make it to the Middle East.
