A former priest will do prison time after being convicted on Thursday of the 1960 murder of a South Texas beauty queen. A jury found 85-year-old John Feit guilty of killing Irene Garza, a 25-year-old school teacher, when he was 27 and serving as a priest in the Valley.
Garza's body was found in a canal five days after she went to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in McAllen, where Feit heard her confession.
Autopsy results showed she had been raped while she was unconscious and died of asphyxiation. Feit's sentence has yet to be determined.
