Church Security Workshops Stress Safety

After the deadly church shooting in Sutherland Springs, safety workshops are being held in the Houston area this week.

They're intended to help pastors create or improve safety plans for their congregations.

The Texas Pastor Council is partnering with law enforcement and local ministries for the church security workshops.

David Welch of the council tells Newsradio 740 KTRH says the options include training for volunteers from the congregation -- and concealed-carry protection, because the unthinkable can happen anywhere.

The next workshop is Thursday for pastors in Fort Bend County.

The Texas Pastor Council is partnering with law enforcement and local ministries for local church security workshops, mindful that the unthinkable can happen anywhere ... as we saw with the church tragedy earlier this month.

Council spokesman David Welch says the options include training for volunteers from the congregation -- and concealed-carry protection.

The next workshop takes place Thursday -- for pastors in Fort Bend County.
