It’s that time of year again. Time to take your family on that Thanksgiving Day break, and you’ll have plenty of company on the highways and airports.
Over 50 million people across the country will travel 50 miles or more this Thanksgiving Day week and Daniel Armbruster with AAA Texas says Texans are no different.
“Between Wednesday and Sunday approximately 3.9 million Texans will travel 50 miles away from home this Thanksgiving. That’s a 3% increase over last year,” Armbruster explained.
You'll also see more people at the airports, where they expect an increase of about 4%. Armbruster says gas prices are higher across the country, but it’s a different story here in Texas.
“The statewide average stayed the same this week at $2.30 a gallon. Houston and Galveston are sitting at $2.26, and that price is unchanged as well,” Armbruster said.
So we could see a record this Thanksgiving Day as far as travelers are concerned, but if you think you're beating everyone else by leaving on Tuesday instead of Wednesday, the analytics company INRIX says you will likely find you're not the only one with that idea.
