Coal Plants Find Defender

Federal regulators are going ahead with a decision next month on Energy Secretary Rick Perry's proposal to keep coal and nuclear power plants from closing.

Congress members from both parties have urged the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to hold off on the decision.  Their concern is that it could have a negative impact on other power generators such as natural gas plants and wind and solar farms.

But FERC chairman Neil Chatterjee said Thursday the decision will be made by December 11th in order to meet a statutory deadline.
