Free Food Tasting, Program Celebrates Brookwood

The public is invited to hear the stories of the innovative Brookwood Community from founder Yvonne Streit – who has co-authored a book about it, "Everyone has a Seed to Sow," with Jana Mullins – at a free special event and food tasting on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at the new Gallery Furniture store at 7227 West Grand Parkway South (Texas 99) in Richmond.

The event begins with a 9:30 a.m. “morning tasting,” followed by a 10 a.m. program and book signing – and then “lunch tastings” in the Brookwood Store inside Gallery Furniture.

People can hear an inspirational and humorous presentation about the stories of Brookwood as told by Streit and Mullins.

Located in Brookshire, Texas, 40 miles west of downtown Houston, Brookwood Community is a non-profit residential facility and vocational program for adults with disabilities.

“Through the Grace of God,” according to its webasite, The Brookwood Community provides an educational environment that creates meaningful jobs, builds a sense of belonging, and provides meaning and purpose for adults with disabilities.”

It also operates a number of stores in the area – and has worked to establish a farmers’ market at Gallery Furniture in Richmond.

The event is underwritten by Gallery Furniture and Long Meadow Farms and is hosted by Fort Bend Friends and Neighbors.
