We’re accustomed to hearing the countdown as NASA has launched rockets, some with people on board, into space. We’re not used to hearing what space itself sounds like, until now.
NASA has released 22 tracks of audio they’ve collected in space through the years in a sampling they call “Spooky Sounds from Across the Solar System,” made available just before Halloween as a treat for other-worldly haunted houses. They are radio transmissions converted to soundwaves. You can access them on Soundcloud here.
The collection includes the sound of plasma waves, sounds that NASA’s Juno craft picked up passing the magnetic field of Jupiter, and other greatest hits including “Saturn’s Radio Transmissions,” and the flyby of a comet.
Be aware that sound levels vary from cut to cut.
