Discovery Green, the 12-acre park in downtown Houston, has announced its winter programming schedule.
The winter season runs from Nov. 18 to next Feb. 25 and features film screenings and family-friendly programs. Most activities are free.
The season kicks off on Nov. 18 with Frostival, Discovery Green’s annual park-wide celebration featuring ice carving, live music and interactive activities.
Park visitors are invited to get into the spirit of the season with special events on “The ICE” skating rink, a holiday film series at Screen on the Green presented by Bank of America and a special edition of Winter Flea by Night, open weekly on Saturdays leading up to Christmas.
Discovery Green’s first original art commission, “Hello, Trees! A Walking Serenade,” will open Nov. 18. In this interactive installation, visitors are invited to speak into input stations located at each end of the sculpture; their voices are translated into light patterns and musical melodies that travel along a series of arches under the live oak canopy, the park feature that inspired this one-of-a-kind piece. “Hello, Trees!” will remain on view through Feb. 25.
