Conditions that could mean a bigger pay raise

More job openings might mean good news for you. Gulf Coast's Workforce Solutions Cally Graves said market demands has brought minimum wage to rise because there's not enough workers.

“Lack of people to fill your positions, means that you do pay more. They give more hours to people that they have, or they get by, by not filling the positions,” Graves said.

People who switch jobs also tend to get bigger raises.

Houston area employers might not be finding enough workers...which might mean a pay raise for you. Graves said there are job openings...mostly for those with specific skills.

“People do need skills to get ahead and get a career, versus just a job. Investing some time and effort in post-secondary education is always helpful . Completing high school is pretty essential,” Graves said.
