For many Americans, marriage is a thing of the past. More women are getting educated and working on their careers rather than having children, according to Counselor Shannon Thornton.
“Women are more in the workplace and able to take care of things financially on their own without having to be married, because for so long people got married to get out of the house” said Thornton.
Kelsey-Sebold's Dr. Christine Le said being single is just more acceptable.
“Half of the households in the U.S. is unmarried. In addition, about one third of all mothers are also unmarried” said Le. “People don’t have to be married to be happy, they just have to be happy with themselves first.”
Thornton said society has changed.
“Marriage use to be a necessity for people, now it’s more of a choice,” said Thornton.
