It wasn't pretty, but the Texans came away with a 13-9 win over the Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium on "Thursday Night Football." The team has evened their record this season at 1-1
Houston rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson made his first-career start, on his birthday no less, and his 49-yard touchdown run in the second quarter ended up being the difference. Watson ran for 67 yards and completed 15-of-24 passes for 125 yards. Coach Bill O’Brien says he was impressed by Watson, especially on the game’s only touchdown.
“It was a good play. He didn’t see anything open down the field and he took off. He did a nice job on that play,” O’Brien said.
As for Watson, he called the game an emotional one.
“Just being able to have the start on this day was emotional. It was a great opportunity to show what I got and what I can do for this team,” Watson told reporters after the game.
JJ Watt re-injured the finger he originally hurt on Sunday in the season opener against Jacksonville.
The Texans will visit the defending Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots a week from Sunday.
