Beware of post-Harvey scams

In the aftermath of Harvey, there are people trying to take advantage of those that had their homes flooded; those that lost everything because of the storm.

So what are the warning signs you should be looking for?

“People are getting notices their flood premiums are past due. They have a post office box or alternate address they are told to send things to, and it’s not the case,” according to financial planner Andy Smith.

Smith says you need to be very careful, and one thing you can do is pay attention to detail.

“They need to ask a lot of questions and get things in writing. They need to talk to other people as they try to figure out what is happening here,” Smith explained.

Smith hosts ‘Investing Sense’ Saturdays at 10am on Newsradio 740 KTRH.
