Could labor shortage hamper Harvey rebuild?

Houston, and every part of Texas impacted by Harvey, are going to need workers to help rebuild. But there may be more job openings than workers to fill them.

Part of the problem according to Houston immigration attorney Gordon Quan is that illegal immigrants who would normally take those jobs may not be around.

“There’s been a fear amongst undocumented people that the crackdown on illegal immigration is forcing them to move out of the Houston market,” Quan explained.

But David Ray with the Federation for American Immigration reform says that simply provides companies looking for workers to fill jobs with an opportunity.

“We have tens of millions of unemployed and underemployed workers currently aching to get back into the job market,” Ray stated.

Elsewhere, ICE, according to NBC News, has not arrested any non-criminal illegal immigrants in the Houston area in the aftermath of Harvey.
